REP. LIVVY FLOREN PROPOSES POSTPONEMENT OF TOWN WEBSITE LAW
GREENWICH- State Rep. Livvy Floren, R-Greenwich and Stamford has proposed a bill this legislative session to postpone implementation of a Freedom of Information law requiring committee meeting agendas and minutes be posted on until July 1, 2012.
Town officials in several towns are pushing for a repeal of the law that since Oct. 1 has required municipalities and other public agencies to post board, commission and committee agendas and minutes on their Web sites.
Rep. Floren said, “Everyone embraces open and transparent government, but this unfunded mandate has imposed undue logistical and financial burdens on towns. A delay in implementation would give municipalities a chance to see how best to comply.”
Elected officials representing some of the small towns have shut down their websites in October rather than risk non-compliance with a new state law requiring them to post meeting minutes and agendas online.
The Connecticut Conference of Municipalities estimated the software needed to comply with the new law would cost from $5,000 to $15,000.

Please stop the destructive tax plan proposal! The legislators that proposed this new state property tax apparently will not be happy until they have driven more residents and businesses out of the State of Connecticut. Taxes have not proven to be the answer to any of our state problems, for example, the state income tax. Please do all you can to defeat this proposed legislation.
